Slowing Down: 31 Days of Intentional Living

Time is like a dangling carrot.

I race to keep up with it, but I can never seem to catch it. And I often mindlessly barrel through my day bouncing from one thing to the next, usually in a state of rush.

Pretty soon the days start melding together, marked by each activity we raced off to, each meeting or practice or errand that had to be done.

All running ever does is distract me.

It doesn't take long before I'm stressed out, dissatisfied, and overwhelmed. I'm doing a lot of things, but am I doing any of them well?

During one of these "aha" moments I realized I hadn't even taken time to breathe. It was like I was holding my breath all day or something. Breathing is an unconscious process, but sometimes it's important to stop and be conscious of breath.

It was after "not breathing" that I created a playlist on my iPod called "Breathing." It's worshipful and it's calm and it reminds me of my need to slow down.

I believe slowing down is a part of intentional living. And it's critical to our own well-being and our family dynamic.

We all know we need to slow down, but do we ever intentionally do it?

Are we deliberate about finding time to rest?

I've been living like the more I do, the more purpose I have. But do you realize that having purpose doesn't necessarily equal productivity? (Think about it.)

So we can live intentionally by slowing down and taking time to rest.

I want to leave you with one of the songs on my "Breathing" playlist by Robbie Seay Band fittingly called "Slow Me Down." I hope you'll take a moment and listen to it.

Might you be intentional about taking time to rest or slow down today?

This is the fourth post in a series, called 31 days of Intentional Living. You can find all the posts in this series here, updated each day in October. Category: Inspirational & Faith

I love the song you shared Christy. It's the first time I've heard. This post really spoke to me as I'm all about intentionally slowing down right now. I know moving at a slower pace is needed. Jeff Goins' book, The In Between, really drove this home.
Thank you for your kind words at my place yesterday. I was touched by all the love and support. {Hugs} to you.
